Satchel. is a hybrid. Part studio, part store.
We carry handmade & custom leather goods that are made in house.
Established in 2006, by Elizabeth Seeger Jolly, Satchel got it’s start on Savannah’s iconic Broughton Street. After a brief post SCAD graduation stint in Los Angeles, this Louisiana native headed home to the South to put down some roots. Shortly after moving back to her hometown, Katrina devastated Louisiana. Still looking for the same “city with a small town feel” of her upbringing, Elizabeth returned to Savannah, GA.
In October of 2006, Satchel opened it’s doors. Originally carrying accessories from other designers, Satchel also offered custom pieces made by Elizabeth. As economic and fashion trends started to change in 2008, Seeger-Jolly noticed that people were starting to pay less attention to her designer options, and show more interest in her custom pieces. The demand for a custom quality item was undeniable.
In 2009, Mahala Lewis started working at Satchel, and helped forever change the shop. Mahala’s exceptional construction skills and “I can make that” attitude helped Elizabeth grow the company into a completely made in house brand. Satchel offered their own ready made goods as well as custom made bags. The duo’s tireless efforts have grown Satchel into an 8 person team that maintains the same small town feel that drew them to Savannah in the first place.
New space. New face. Same good vibes.
Satchel’s one and only flagship store is now located at the corner of Bull & Liberty Streets in the heart of downtown Savannah Georgia. With our open floor plan, you’ll be able to shop ready-made goods with an open view of our production space. Did you find a style you love, but wish it were a different color, size, strap length, etc? One of our Satchelette’s can help you place a custom order for your ideal bag! You can choose your own leathers, linings, and hardware to customize an already existing design, or to completely start from scratch. We might even name a new design after you. We function like a family, and we’re all about some Southern hospitality! Our regulars know that it’s not uncommon to catch us having family style lunches, or occasionally offering a glass of bubbles while you hang out in our cozy casual space and watch the studio work.
So stop in anytime, we’re looking forward to seeing you next time you’re in the neighborhood.
